Wow. Thank you to all our generous donors and supporters who made the last two months possible! On January 17th 2016 we took flight (literally) with the non-profit organization One Sky Project, and our most important travel accessory was a pile of cameras. After an amazing journey across the southern hemisphere of Africa, we are changed and inspired.
We have big ideas and so much to do – as we try to honor the work of organizations like Ikhaya Le Themba – an after school program for at risk kids near Cape Town, South Africa, Mufindi Children’s Village – an NGO that provides shelter, sustenance, education, and medical care for vulnerable children and families in the Mufindi District of Tanzania, and Amani Ya Juu – a sewing shop that provides opportunity and hope for women in Uganda freed from captivity.
Thank you to Sihle, who gave us a behind-the-scenes tour of the township, Imizamo Yethu, where Ikhaya Le Themba is located and shared his first-hand experiences growing up in extreme poverty in South Africa. Starting in Cape Town, South Africa, our faithful rented Land Rover carried us over 7,000 km of roads, desert trails and mountain paths across seven countries – and we only ended up stranded once – which turned out to be a great lesson in the kindness of strangers!
From a sunrise hike to capture the dune launch of our paraglider pilots off a stunning landmark in Sossusvlei, Namibia to the breathtaking sunset images of Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe – we feel blessed and humbled by the beauty of our shared planet and its people.
Now comes the hard part – sorting through hundreds of hours of footage between the air (hang gliders, para gliders, and a drone) and ground, including interviews with some of the boldest and most innovative change makers across southern Africa. We can’t wait to share their work with all of you. You can follow this project and learn more about Wild Free Studio’s non-profit sister organization, Here-is-Why, by clicking here.
Stay tuned for more HERE-is-Why photos and video! We couldn’t do this without our “village” of support … so thank you, again. Whether you donated to a fundraising campaign, shared our stories on your social media pages, or hired Wild Free Studios for a project – every dollar we earn helps support justice, hope and opportunity for our brothers and sisters around the globe. Thank you.
